ToggleClear Communication for Safety and Comfort
Inside a mild hyperbaric oxygen chamber, communication is everything. Once pressurized, verbal conversations can be difficult or even impossible due to the chamber’s sealed environment and airflow noise. That’s why OxyEdge™ developed a simple, systematic method for communicating — a universal language of mHBOT Hand Signals.
These hand signals help both the person inside the chamber and the operator outside stay in sync at all times, ensuring a safe, calm, and effective session.
Why Hand Signals Matter in Hyperbaric Therapy
In mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT), users often experience subtle changes in ear pressure, comfort, or temperature. Being able to instantly communicate how you feel — without relying on voice — prevents discomfort and allows the operator to make quick, accurate adjustments.
A reliable system of hand signals eliminates confusion and builds trust between the user and the operator. It also enhances safety, especially for first-time users, children, or individuals using hyperbaric therapy for wellness, recovery, or performance.
The OxyEdge™ Hand Signal System
To simplify and standardize communication, OxyEdge created a clear set of mHBOT Hand Signals — now used across clinics and wellness centers nationwide:
OK / I’m OK – Index finger and thumb together in a circle
Up / Reduce Pressure – Thumbs up
Down / More Pressure – Thumbs down
Unsure – Hand rotating slightly side-to-side (meaning “not sure” or “something feels off”)
Me / You – Pointing toward self or another person
Stop – Palm facing forward
My Ear Hurts – Pointing to ear
These hand signals provide an easy, intuitive way to communicate during every stage of the session — from pressurization to decompression.
A Safer, Smarter Approach to Wellness
OxyEdge chambers are designed for modern wellness — quiet, comfortable, and highly controlled. Pairing that advanced design with an equally thoughtful communication system helps create a complete and reassuring experience.
By training staff and clients to use these simple hand signals, every OxyEdge operator can maintain better awareness and ensure every session runs smoothly — with safety, confidence, and peace of mind.
Download and Display the Chart
We encourage clinics and wellness centers to print and display the OxyEdge Hand Signal Chart near each chamber. This quick reference helps new users feel at ease and gives operators a universal language to rely on.
